Description
Exemestane is an oral aromatase inhibitor used in the hormonal treatment of estrogen-dependent breast cancer in postmenopausal women. It works by reducing estrogen production, thereby helping slow or inhibit the growth of hormone-sensitive tumor cells. It is intended for use under the supervision of a qualified healthcare professional.

Indications
Exemestane is indicated for adjuvant treatment of postmenopausal women with estrogen receptor-positive early breast cancer after 2 to 3 years of tamoxifen, for completion of a total of 5 consecutive years of adjuvant hormonal therapy. It is also indicated for advanced breast cancer in postmenopausal women whose disease has progressed following tamoxifen therapy.

Dosage & Administration
The usual recommended dose of exemestane is 25 mg orally once daily after a meal. Treatment duration depends on the indication and the patient’s clinical response. Administration should follow the prescribing physician’s instructions and applicable product labeling.

Mechanism of Action
Exemestane is a steroidal aromatase inactivator. It binds irreversibly to the aromatase enzyme, blocking the conversion of androgens to estrogens in peripheral tissues. This leads to marked suppression of circulating estrogen levels in postmenopausal women.

Precautions
Use with caution in patients with hepatic or renal impairment and in those with reduced bone mineral density or osteoporosis risk, as estrogen suppression may adversely affect bone health. Exemestane is intended for postmenopausal women and should not be used during pregnancy. Concomitant use with estrogen-containing products should be avoided because they may interfere with its pharmacologic action.

Side Effects
Common adverse effects may include hot flashes, fatigue, nausea, headache, insomnia, increased sweating, musculoskeletal pain, arthralgia, and dizziness. Some patients may also experience abdominal discomfort, depression, or edema. Any severe or persistent adverse reaction should be evaluated by a healthcare professional.

Storage
Store at controlled room temperature, protected from excessive heat, moisture, and direct light. Keep the container tightly closed and out of reach of children. Storage should follow the specific instructions on the product label.
